My Top-Ten List of Ho-Hum Blog Themes

Posted by: Rain on: 2009/04/03

With nothing to do on a dismal, cold, and blustery Friday night, I’ve decided to compile my list of the top-ten UGLIEST blog themes.

1.

wp-theme-ugly

I guess the floral header is supposed to suggest pretty, but what’s with the depressing color scheme?  Yuck.

2.

wp-theme-turuncu-gemi

Ugh.

3.

wp-theme-wheat-lite

Wow.  I still can’t figure out this decision.  Is this why a majority of the blogs that I visit are WHITE, with black text?

4.

wp-theme-unspeakable-dogness

Baby sh*t brown?  With a green header no less, and then purple links.

5.

wp-theme-wide-gray

Creative, I suppose, but still gray and depressing, with minimal workspace.

6.

wp-theme-rgb

There’s almost as much space for junk & widgets as there is for a blog.  I actually kinda-sorta like the red, but with that chunk of WHITE distracting the eye, it just, doesn’t work for me.

7.

wp-theme-blue-n-poop

An attempt at cute, but with ALL the wrong color combinations.  The two hues of blue wouldn’t be so bad if that nasty baby sh*t brown wasn’t added to the depressing mix.  What about a light yellow instead?  A third blue hue?

8.

wp-theme-blue-white

I think what bugs me most about these themes is the WHITE mixed in with color.  It’s not jiving with me, and my low opinion of blue aside, if the main part of the page were anything but white … a paler blue maybe?  A soft yellow again?  I don’t know.  I’m into the green, though.  I think it goes well with that dark, depressing blue.

9.

wp-theme-girl

Again, an attempt at cute, which isn’t the worst thing about this, particular theme.   At least it isn’t WHITE, but … how is anyone supposed to read this?

10.

wp-theme-baby-poop

Ugh.  OMG.  Yuck.  Wtf?

I found a used copy of CSS for WordPress Themes at Amazon.com, and I’m sure it’ll be a massive waste of money, but what the hell.

And, maybe it’s because I’m not going to PAY to use WordPress that I’m limited to these bottom-of-the-heap style choices?  I don’t know.

Because I use cable to connect to the internet, this somehow forbids me to use an FTP server, upload my own web pages, and maintain my own site.   While cable is a thousand times better than dial-up, the simple fact that my hands are tied by the machine has me in a quandary about which is the lesser of two evils.

Oh well … I’m starting to like more and more the idea of returning to the days when I’d pull out a pretty, hardbound DIARY from underneath my mattress and use a purple or pink ink PEN to jot down my thoughts.
